Wow, I cant imagine doing my Bible study or Bible reading with any other program. I have used Laridian software for years and it has been a blessing to my spiritual growth. I began using them when I had a Palmpilot, basically just as a portable Bible reader. Then after purchasing an IPad I began using the Pocketbible app every morning when I do my Bible Study. It has enriched my quiet time in so many ways that I strongly encourage my friends to get it.
Once I started using it on my iPad, I purchased other books through the company to read in the app. For example, Mcarthurs Study Bible, Blackabys "Experiencing God" devotional, and a chronological Bible reading plan, and many more.
Below are just some of the features I use. Some of these features may require the advanced feature set, but I believe its less than $5 for that option, and I have spent more on other apps that I never use. I would recommend purchasing the advanced feature set anyway if for no other reason than to support this company for such a great app. If you do it will be money well spent.
1: The ability to open several books at one time using different tabs. When I open the program every morning, I have 5 "books"open, my Bible, my Bible reading plan, Mcarthurs Study Bible notes, my dictionary, and a devotional. (I believe the tabbed function may require the advanced feature option).
2: The sync feature. This feature synchs your study notes to whatever your reading in the Bible. For example. When Im reading in the book of Romans, I may have a question about several verses. I can go to the tab with Mcarthurs study notes and immediately find the study notes for those verses without having to search for them. The synch feature allows the study notes to keep up with your reading progress. In other words they follow each other as you read so you dont have to "flip" pages. (You also can synchronize your reading progress, bookmarks, highlights etc between your iPad & iPhone).
3: Bookmarks and Highlights. The ability to highlight your Bible is always great. But when I began to bookmark verses as well it made searching much easier. For example, Ive created a category for "Grace," and when I find a verse on that topic I can assign it to that category. Then, when I want to review the verses associated with "Grace," I just look it up in my bookmarks and it pulls them all up so I can review them.
4: Search function
5: Buy it and keep it. I purchased a study guide on my Palmpilot years ago, and can still use them on my iPad.
6: Reading progress.
If you use a Bible reading plan and devotional, it will keep track of your reading progress. Just go to "todays reading" and afterwards remember to "mark it as read."
A couple of suggestions. Ive purchased the chronological reading plan and have really enjoyed it. It has become my preference when reading through the Bible each year. I can read scripture in the order it happened. Also really enjoyed Blackabys "Experiencing God Day By Day" devotional.
If your serious about your Bible Study, this is the one to use. Im also using the latest version with no problems on my iPad.
